And we’ve finally made it to the end. Truly, I feel that it’s still amazing that I have no idea what will happen in this episode. I’d have to agree with the TV Guide review which said that last episode felt like a finale in some sorts. It clarified a lot and it showed what will happen in the future. So I don’t know how they’ll end it now-maybe after both trials are over with a “cliff hanger” on whether or not Ellen will work for Patty again. But we’ll see. Finally, the first season finale of “Damages!”

I like how it starts with the American flag waving and that really classical music-it makes it seem like its the climax of a movie. I love how they then contrast it with the subway smoke and scaffolding of typical NYC.

I wonder where Ellen’s and David’s hiding place was. Or even if she felt anything when David died, like soul mates are said to.

So who tried to kill Ellen if Frobisher’s men never got to her? Mr. Nye?

That’s terrible she can’t be at David’s funeral…

Is Nye’s guy spying on Ellen at her parents’ house? Hey, what ever happened to her dad’s case?

Is Patty visiting her ex-husband? Or her parents’ grave? Who? Why? SO MANY QUESTIONS! It’s the finale they’re supposed to be answering questions not adding more to the pile.

Patty re-did her office to forget the suicide? No they just cleaned it I think. She’s so creeped out.

Ellen was right. Patty can save her. Patty’s the best attorney she can get. I wonder if Ellen even has the tape.

The murderer reminds me of Seth Rogen. Just saying.

Ellen find the flashlight. Please find the flashlight.

Man, the Seth Rogen guy is a detective. I hate him.

Frobisher’s violent Larry, be careful. Isn’t Larry still scared of Patty? She threatened him and his entire family.

This scene from 2002 in Florida we know already. We saw the Gregory tape last episode. It’s just killing time.

Ellen is Patty. It’s crazy. I hate it. David brought out the good in Ellen. Now that he’s gone, she’s going to be the next Patty.

Hah Frobisher just used the theme on his son-”I trusted too many people.” TRUST NO ONE. Great advice to one’s son. Really. He IS such a great dad.

I wonder if Ellen will even go to David’s funeral-what deal did Patty even strike with the D.A. to get Ellen free? I hate this shady business.

Ironic that the murder weapon was what held Gregory’s tape-David’s and Ellen’s hiding place.

Why would Patty go to Frobisher with the DVD? Why does she want him to see the tape? Why didn’t Patty just settle before? Why’d she wait for the tape?

WHY DOES PATTY HATE FROBISHER SO MUCH? Was it because he’s the reason someone died thirty-five years ago?

Wow. Frobisher’s going to lose 95% of his net worth…

That didn’t happen with Mr. Enron did it?

So both cases are over? That’s it? Fun. Really. Frobisher gets away with it. He keeps his name relatively clean. Yay.

Frobisher settled for $2 billion. Wow.

Larry’s being cut out of it. That’s crazy. He’s going to have a heart attack. He’s 70. Just give him some money to live on. That’s quite heartless of the rest of the people, I’d have to say.

I’m surprised Ellen’s at the party-she doesn’t feel uncomfortable? David just died.

Ellen should stop trusting Nye. This is how she’d stop though. FBI. Hah.

Ellen got smart. She’s not naive anymore. Yay for character development.

And now for the reconciliation of Katie and Ellen…very predictable.

I feel so bad for Ellen though. I loved David too. He was the last good guy on earth.

Patty lied. Haha. Good that Frobisher’s going to get screwed after all. That’s how she got the D.A. to drop the charges.

I’d bet Larry shoots him. He does! It’s ironic that he’s Frobisher’s downfall.

Ellen will never get peace of mind about David-just like Patty didn’t 35 years ago…It’s an assumption but a total possibility.

Ellen’s even giving vague answers, like Patty. I hate it.

Patty had a daughter. Wow. And she died before delivery. Julia. Now Ellen’s her “daughter.” Patty will never tell. Shows she’s vulnerable. Patty won’t let Ellen get away, if that’s how she feels about her.

Patty’s saying that she regrets what she and Ellen did, and being honest with Ellen because she wants Ellen back. She’s asking Ellen to forgive her. She wants a “second chance.”

Still. Who tried to kill Ellen?

“I don’t believe in the law anymore. But I do believe in justice.”- By Ellen. She’s going to work for Patty to prove Frobisher had David killed.

The show reminds me of ” The Departed,” because everyone dies in the end.

Ellen still thinks Patty tried to kill her. SHE DID. Oh wow. Holy hell I hate this show. Everyone’s corrupt. Everyone’s messed over. Ellen wants to get back at Patty. Working for the FBI. But is Nye bad or good? I’m still confused.

I love it how I ended this blog with I’m so confused and it’s the season finale. It says a lot about the show and it’s writers. It leaves suspense for season two. I AM NOT WATCHING SEASON TWO. This show was not for me. It was abstract, confusing and unrealistic. It was too corrupt. Our justice system is messed up. Everyone dies. The end. I don’t know why people liked it but I seem to be one of the few who didn’t. But I don’t mind. I’m entitled to my own opinion and it sucked. I rate this episode 2.5, because it still left me with questions, and dragged at times.

A final question of my own: Aren’t you just SO excited for season two?

So are we finally going to find out how, when and in what context Ellen and David broke up? Is that the no “we?” I mean, it’s pretty basic, but maybe it’ll make sense. Either that, or no “we” as in Ellen doesn’t work for Patty anymore, so she’s no longer part of Hewes Associates. But we’ll see soon enough…

I think that the episode’s going to end with Ellen throwing the ring, because the episode’s starting with the rings. They’re such a cute couple.

Ellen’s paranoid…from Patty?

I knew Patty was the one that called her…Ellen responds, why? She doesn’t work for her…

Ellen’s definitely going to mention something to David about Fisk committing suicide because she’s going to feel guilty. Ellen’s also got the papers that incriminate Patty-the ones Fisk signed that said he would’ve lost the trial on purpose. So does Patty then get all-paranoid that it’s risking her career, so she attempts to murder both of them? God this show’s messed up.

Why do I feel like David’s lying to Ellen too?

Patty seems really shaken up…Fisk committed suicide because he was gay while still being married, and a murderer.

Is that how Ellen’s going to end up at Patty’s place? No wonder Patty got all convulsive by sobbing at the beach house. She witnessed so much. Maybe she has a heart…somewhere.

This definitely did NOT happen in the Enron case, just by the way. Everyone would’ve heard about it. It’s such a drama, it still reminds me of Gossip Girl, twelve episodes later. It’s too much drama for me. It should be more focused on the cases at hand maybe, rather than the characters’ lives in such detail.

And here’s the fight…

Ellen does have a point. Why does David make her choose between him and Patty? Why can’t she decide? If he truly loved her, he wouldn’t have made her choose between the two.

David needed to call to apologize…

Katie gives David Gregory’s tape. And then David’s killed. I wonder if she even knew there was a tag on her. Would she put her brother in danger on purpose?

I HATE ALL THIS DRAMA.

Is Ellen’s only “friend” to turn to really Patty? Katie was her only friend?

Is Tom asking Ellen out? He knows she’s engaged. THAT’S what’s ballsy, Tom. “Stupid, but ballsy.”

Why did Fisk’s wife come to Frobisher, of all people? She’s so torn but she doesn’t look so upset for just losing her husband.

There are just no rules or laws for the rich and famous, are there? That is, until someone winds up dead. And even then things get iffy.

Ellen still has a heart. Patty considers this vulnerability, and then attempts to kill Ellen? She doesn’t want Ellen to tell on her.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if you were together again by the time I got back.”-Patty says this to Ellen about her and David’s fight. Is that supposed to be a sick joke? Like yeah, you’ll both be dead so you’ll be together someplace else? Or does Patty honestly want them back together?

Why would David watch the video? I thought he wasn’t interested in the case…

I wonder if Ellen ever listens to her messages that David left her? I think those would clear her name. The court should listen to them.

Oh, what is Patty’s son doing behind her back now?

Leila. Came into the apartment. While Ellen was gone. She is such a stalker.

And Frobisher’s guys killed David. End of story. How’d they clean up their work so that it looks like it was Ellen who killed him? Patty didn’t try to kill David.

I like how we could feel how Ellen feels walking into the sun for the first time in days.

She says the same thing Patty did after Fisk committed suicide…She really is just like Patty. All she wants to do is be alone.

Did David keep the secret till the end so they never find the tape? He died for Ellen’s case. He knew how much it meant to her. But it’s still crazy.

And they also tried to kill Ellen. Wow. So where is the tape?

How is Ellen thinking straight after David’s death? I’d be more “P.S. I Love You”-all depressed and crazy.

Ellen’s definitely going back to Patty. Because there is no season two if she doesn’t.

Ellen’s using blackmail, just like Patty does, so Patty will be her lawyer.

Oh my god. Ellen’s mentor Mr. Nye is bad too. Stop this corruption already! The law field is not THIS crazy!!!

Do the writers want the viewers to have a quite frustrating not relaxing thirteen weeks of summer? That’s what it seems. This is such an insane show. I mean it’s great that I can’t predict any of it, even the last episode. And it surely holds its audience. But it’s certainly not my type of show. Again, I looked at a few reviews, one in particular by TV Guide, and they all loved the show. My question is why? “It’s complicated, but it provides closure at the same time,” TV Guide says. I’d disagree. It never seems to close up everything before it adds more mystery. I’d give this episode a 3, because, honestly, I just don’t care what happens to anyone anymore. I can assure you of one thing though: no season two for me.

While looking at a few other “Damages” reviews, I found out more about the station it was aired on. Apparently FX is known for its moral ambiguity. It looks our animal selves in the eye and tells us what we’re doing wrong, but in a backhanded way. Like with Katie and Gregory. They shouldn’t have been getting high and having sex and yet because they did, they got tied into a whole mess that led to Gregory’s death. Anyways, that’s what the review said FX is known for. I’m not sure if they’re religious, but it sure seems to be that way if the review was right. Anyways, the title makes me think of Patty since she seems to hate ALL people. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

Oh does Ellen want to be hired by the old guy/mentor that warned her? His name is Mr. Nye. He won’t hire her? He wants her to live her life? Man, he’s the total opposite of Patty Hewes.

I wonder if Patty dressed up as someone else and tried to kill Ellen herself? Or if she murdered David.

I said Patty was OCD. She’s not going to leave that bathroom till the blood’s off her shoe.

That’s really creepy that Patty was standing at the apartment door when David opened it. I hope Ellen doesn’t go back to Patty. Even though she’s bound to. Ah I hate this show. DON’T SAY YES TO PATTY ELLEN!

Patty’s using the apartment against Ellen. Why’d Ellen say she’d talk to Moore, if she doesn’t want her job back?

Such foreshadowing that Tom said to the employees that they should tell everyone that Ellen’s dead if they wanted.

And we finally meet Fisk’s wife…waste of time in the episode.

Fisk’s guilty conscience is playing him. Him and Gregory were good friends. How could Fisk kill him?

Fisk likes the control he gets by being an attorney, he said. Control freak much?

I feel like David’s looking his killers in the eye…”Patty Hewes told me to take good care of you.” That’s what the men said and 6 days later he’s dead.

Patty is either really surprised Ellen’s in jail for the murder and will go back to save her-unlikely-or she thinks Ellen’s dead and now finds out she’s not.

Patty’s way paranoid now.

Why does Ellen always meet Moore at night?

Moore says he’ll bring her “a present.” Why does she trust him? That whole statement’s just creepy.

I hate Leila. But David’s not cheating on Ellen obviously.

Adorable garden gnome…haha.

Ironic how now Ellen and David don’t want or like Patty in their lives, but in like 3-4 days David winds up dead possibly because of her.

Fisk is depressed. He shouldn’t be allowed to talk to the waiters. The one he befriended wound up dead.

So Fisk took the pictures of Moore and Ellen. So will he kill Moore now?

I like that Ellen left the money Patty gave her. I just think she’s stupid to meet Moore alone.

I was right. Fisk killed Moore to shut him up. But Ellen was definitely hardened by Patty that she didn’t freak out at the sight of Moore dead. She just went for the incriminating pictures and got herself out of there.

Fisk is going to get fired. People always start a firing by saying oh “you used to be like a son to my grandfather.” In other words, “now, you suck.”

Fisk is violent though-Gregory and Moore. I’d be wary of him. You can’t get a new lawyer up to speed with the case, though. It’s years in the making and everything and everyone is so intertwined.

What arrangement does Patty want? How could Fisk tank at the trial? He won’t do it.

I like that. Patty tells Fisk to “repent.”

I feel like things have gotten so bad for Fisk he could be on the brink of suicide…just saying.

That’s so cliche-Gregory wrote a letter to Fisk actually saying that “in case anything happens to me…”-and told him his whole plan.

How did things go downhill so fast for David and Ellen? In less than two days, they’re over.

Why’s Katie hiding out by the building when Ellen runs out after her fight with David? That’s so creepy. Oh but she has the tape.

Glenn Close looks really aged playing Patty Hewes.

See, I don’t get it. How could the Frobisher case mirror the Enron one if it says this one happened in 2002?

Fisk is gay? OH MY GOD. I really never saw that coming. I don’t think anyone did. But he’s married. Maybe he’s bisexual?

Fisk is fleeing? Maybe Patty and Ellen will prevent Fisk from leaving the country because she wants this case in court.

Maybe they’ll end up killing him? They did something…

Oh my god Leila’s in the house! Creepy freaky stalker…

Maybe Ellen and Patty got together and killed her-”do you regret what we did?” But then who killed David and tried to kill Ellen?

Patty thought she could change the world by becoming a lawyer? Wow, she changed her attitude.

“We attorneys survive. It’s the clients that come and go.”-Patty says this to Fisk. It’s not Fisk’s attitude though. He develops relationships with his clients.

Isn’t Fisk running away? Of course Patty wants to hire all her competition. Because then she’s the best and the boss of the best.

I don’t get this show.

Will Fisk commit suicide now?

I called it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s how the blood got on Patty’s shoe..

And that’s what Ellen’s feeling guilty about. She pushed a guy to commit suicide.

Wow. This episode was INSANE. Where’s the case now if Fisk is dead? I think it’s safe to assume now that the basic plot line of the case was taken from Enron but the details are very different. I really hate this show. With all the twisted stuff I don’t feel like I’m relaxing by watching it. I actually get more tense. And it was aired in the summer-usually a relaxing time. People really enjoyed this? It’s terrible. I rate it a 4-for witty lines and attention capturing scenes. But honestly, if I didn’t have to watch this show, I wouldn’t.

It is now 4:19 PM and I’m working my way through the last of these episodes. I mean, it hasn’t been a terrible show, but I can’t say it was my favorite or that I’m dying to see season two. Or really even the end of this season. I’m actually kind of sick of it. And I’m guessing this title means as in Hewes Associates is “sort of like a family.” It’s what makes sense. But I guess we’ll find out soon enough anyway.

Ellen probably shouldn’t destroy her boss’s house. Just saying. Hah but David just had a nightmare that Ellen turned into Patty. Which is ironic, because that’s what I’ve been saying this whole season.

So Patty’s planning on keeping Ellen only till after Gregory’s a witness? And she’d tell Tom that, truthfully? I don’t think so. What is Patty’s type of lawyer though, if Ellen isn’t?

I just realized that during the theme song in one of the pictures there’s a zoomed up shot of Patty’s hands pulling on her wedding band. So ironic, and so easily missed. It’s a shame.

So Gregory died. Now the Arlington, VA case with the hush money Frobisher gave when he hit and killed that girl. That’s not Frobisher’s wife? That’s a step mom? So what happened to his first wife?

The wikipedia comment’s funny. Did it exist in 2001? I just googled it. It was only just founded it in 2001. So, if this is based on Enron, was it popular even then? Or are they just making the dialogue more modern than the case?

Why did Patty take Ellen off the deposition? Is she responding to Tom’s comment? That’s unlike her.

Oh my god I did not think Frobisher was smart enough to get around Patty and to justify to the world the stocks he gave to “hush” the family of the girl he killed. That’s a twist. Patty looks so pissed off. Is this really going to mess with her case.

Who’s covering up for the guy Ellen murdered? And why is Tom listening to Ellen in Rikers Island now?

The writers are humanizing Frobisher-he can’t tie his own tie. It’s not working. I don’t think the viewers care. I know I don’t.

Good foreshadowing-”You shake hand’s with people one day and the next they’re trying to stab you.” I mean Frobisher said it but it’s what Patty did to Ellen, I think. Literally.

Was Patty pushing Ellen away so Ellen would be more motivated to be a part of the case? Ellen did just call Moore. Can Patty read Ellen so well?

And Frobisher’s wife seems to be cheating on him. They’re a perfect couple cheating on each other like that. Except I guess she’s better by actually going to call a divorce.

Why does Ellen think it’s okay to start threatening people? She’s young and naive and doesn’t know Moore from anyone. And who’s taking pictures and stalking her and Moore? Someone hired by Patty?

I think Patty did take Ellen off to further motivate her.

Where’s Gregory’s tape? I mean they now have that woman Ellen met with. But why didn’t Katie send the tape? Did she find it?

Patty knows Frobisher isn’t lying about not knowing that Gregory is dead, or that he had stock in his company. Since when did Frobisher get smart? The whole season he was portrayed more as stupid, now at the end he’s smart. Inconsistent.

Why is Patty so angry and taking it out on Ellen? It was like Ellen was being job-suicidal by talking to Patty like that. Did she want to be fired? Will she get rehired when Patty sees her discovery? I think she will be. But what was the point of her getting fired in the first place?

Finally Tom finds something to back up Ellen’s statement to get her off Rikers Island. But will he use it? Or will her protect Patty?

I thought Frobisher’s wife was waiting to divorce him…did the guy she’s seeing file it? Wait is the guy she’s seeing hired by Patty to throw Frobisher off?

See now I think everything in this show’s a conspiracy. I hate that.

“There’s nothing more important than to the well being of a company than the relationship between its workers and its management.”-Said by Frobisher. So it’s like a family commitment, Patty says. She knows about the divorce. How does she know everything?

Someone’s going to get hurt…”You can’t always get what you want”-Rolling Stones. They should play that song right now. God when Frobisher doesn’t get what he wants he turns violent. He’s like a never grew up spoiled child.

Whenever a lawyer gets fired, he/she gets drunk. That’s what the writers are showing.

Why won’t Patty settle now that Frobisher wants to. It’s a flip-flop, the whole show.

I’m happy Ellen’s not showing that she’s desperate and ignored Patty’s call.

What does Ellen know that Patty’s so scared about coming out? And the blood on Patty’s shoe shows she messed up, and tried to kill Ellen. Or someone. Happy Tom came through for Ellen though.

Man, I don’t like this show. At all. It just isn’t enjoyable to sit through. You can’t trust anyone, and no one can really live like that. It’s terrible. God these writers have twisted minds. Their making lawyers like the mafia-they wrote “The Sopranos.” I wished I’d watched that show so I could compare the two and see if they’re more alike since their face value seems to convey that. I’d rate this episode a 3. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

So maybe this episode will give us insight into Frobisher’s guilty conscience, which the writers seem to like to do. Because I assume Gregory was killed by his men. And now Frobisher’s either going to spill on the stands in the courtroom or he’s going to just freak out alone, since we probably won’t make it to court in this episode. Because it’s still too early in the season, I think. But I guess we’ll see. I read a few more reviews and they said that as the show advanced, it became more riveting. I’d disagree though. I think it got worse as it went on. But I also can’t really relate to the characters. Maybe if I was older I’d like it better. But I guess only time can tell. It’s now 5:40 PM, and here we go to episode nine…

Nice, how they’re showing us the entire season in short-it’s sort of like a finale in that way.

And wow-was I off? Is the regret on Patty and Ellen’s action that made David so mad?

Is that Katie cooking? Hah it is! With her new dog Patty gave her. And what’s the symbolism with her watching Bride of Frankenstein? I mean, it lends itself to being spooky…oh so now Gregory’s stalking her? Nice. That’s where he decided to run away? And he’s not dead!!!!!!

What’s so special about this guy Katie and Tom are meeting? Is he the stock broker?

Leila’s a violent stalker, be careful David. I’m glad he’s loyal though. He couldn’t have cheated on Ellen.

So Gregory worked for Fisk…as what? A false witness? A feed to Katie? And what is the guy who reminds me of the mafia, who I thought killed Gregory, going to do to Frobisher now? What does he have to hide? His name’s Moore.

Leila still has David’s keys? Or she made a second set? Or a false set? She really is crazy.

Are the writers trying to make a mockery of Mr. Enron? Yes, someone should tell Frobisher to his face that he destroyed 5,000 people’s lives!

How come Katie’s so mad at Ellen still? She should be more angry at Patty. And why does Ellen think it’s okay to get in a car with a relatively strange man in NYC?

That’s so ironic, the statement Ellen said she may lose David forever. Such foreshadowing.

Frobisher killed a girl in a car crash twenty-five years ago. Wow. Where’s the concept of double jeopardy here?

Why’s Katie ready to hear Gregory out and not Ellen?

Gregory got messed over too.

I hate Leila! She’s going to mess with Ellen’s life. I hate that. She’s psychotic. She could definitely be the reason why Ellen’s at Rikers Island now.

Patty’s running away from some sort of blame on something she did. That’s why she left Ellen alone in her apartment. She doesn’t want the secret to get out that she did something illegal. It’s called manipulation. It’s evil.

Ellen’s being so hard on David. Why? Good. She forgave him.

Why does Moore want Frobisher to settle so badly?

I said Frobisher’s got too much pride to be a good witness. He’s not hard, he IS emotional. He has too much pride. He wants to clear his name and say his story.

Moore failed taking Frobisher down. He’s leading the SEC. I like that Ellen doesn’t trust him.

Is Gregory still playing Katie? Or does he have a huge guilty conscience? I hope Katie doesn’t settle because she’s desperate for some happiness. Why’s Gregory eyeing Katie’s video camera? It’s sweet Gregory trying to save Fisk…but save him from what exactly?

Will Gregory make a video statement and send it to Hewes? Just a thought.

So Patty cut Tom out of her life as well as everyone else? Did she run away from everything? She’d never do that. She put too much into her company to just abandon it. And she’d never abandon her son. Why’s she almost convulsing in sobs on the beach? It’s kind of horrifying seeing her like that actually.

I was right! About Gregory making a tape, I mean. Now we get the full story. Finally. Wow. So Frobisher met with Moore in Miami. Clears up a lot. But Gregory walking the dog, I think, will get him killed.

So Leila is nuts. Nice of Patty to give all that stuff to Ellen though. Why is she nice?

The hit actually made me nauseous. I mean I had a feeling Gregory was going to die, but I don’t think the car did it on purpose.

Why’d Gregory leave Katie a check?

Oh my God. Fisk had Gregory killed? And he trusted Fisk so much…so sad.

I said Frobisher has too much pride to not say his story. He still thinks he can get his name back. Boy is he living in a delusion.

Cute-Patty Hewes hates public speaking. Humanizes her more. I think the writers should stop that. I feel like Patty flinched when Frobisher touched her. Why does Patty want to bring down Frobisher so badly? It’s the underlying question throughout the whole season. I hope the writers answer it. She knows how to play him so well. Or was it a dream?

Is Frobisher’s escape sex with random women? So gross.

Why are there pictures of Glenn Close young on her table at the beach house? Is she really running away?

This episode bothered me. Not because it was particularly bad or anything, but more because the subjects it brought up were pretty, depressing, dreary and unclear. Like, it left us with both cases at the same point, but with the main characters’ emotional states in limbo. So that now I just feel unsatisfied and depressed. Yay. I’d rate it a 3 for that. Because it’s the typical style of the writers, but at the same time, after nine full episodes, I still don’t like it.

It is now 8 PM and, like always, I am about to watch episode eight on my laptop. And I’m so praying we will not get caught at a standstill, with more character than plot development, as the show tends to do after an overly good episode. But thinking of the fact that there are still six episodes left including the one I’m about to watch, this episode will most likely turn out like that. But I sure hope not. I also looked at a few reviews of the first season. The overall opinion was that it was thrilling, but demanded an overall commitment. Which is very obvious to the viewer. It’s just that, for me, I’d rather watch a light easy-going show, as opposed to an intense one I’d need to watch every week. But I highly doubt I’m the target audience anyways. So thank god for netflix…

I wonder if the news/radio broadcasts they use in the show are ones from 2001, when the Enron case played out.

Who says the girl has to care about the wedding cake?

Ellen killed someone? Wow. For the case. David had every right to kick her out if she was a murderer. Why should he get involved in hiding crimes? It’s not what he signed up for when he got engaged. Ellen changed for Patty.

Why does no one in Patty Hewes’ family have any table conversation? This is what she considers family breakfast? I hope she’s kidding.

Oh it’s Frobisher’s mole working at the car wash. It’s the first we’ve seen of him in a while. What are the writers trying to show? Wow, he’s getting fired. Sort of compares to today’s economy.

Ellen worked her way up to get an assistant? How many months has it been? Pretty impressive. But there he goes since Patty doesn’t like him.

It’s cute her parents made a house-call to her work. Hah, but they need something. Kind of like the reverse of what teenagers do-they go butter up their parents for something, now the parents are in need of Ellen’s help. Also cliche that her dad’s blaming her mom for the accident. But I doubt Ellen’s going to be “allowed” by Patty to help.

I wonder if Patty knows that the old guy’s the mole. I think she does.

Was Ellen that naive that she didn’t know that that was Patty’s way of telling her to fire her assistant?

Was the Enron investigation since 1998? That’s what Ellen said about the Frobisher one. So why’d it just come out in 2001 to the public?

Why’s Mr. Fisk freaking out about protecting the old guy named Larry? He still looks half-dead by the way. Why would he go confront Patty about a settlement? And how was Patty so broken about being shamed by Mr. Fisk in the courts and ran away after the Frobisher case was settled, if Mr. Enron went to jail? It says they were basing it on that case. So why would Patty be broken if she won the case and got Frobisher in jail? Now I’m confused. Stupid that Fisk told her the exact number Frobisher got though. Cause now she knows.

Hah, that’s funny. Larry’s going to freak out Frobisher now about the fact that Hewes may try to get him on murder. But I think Patty’s fibbing about it anyway. Good way to turn Larry on Frobisher and bring stuff out. Patty misthought though. I’d bet she thinks Larry accepted bribes so she can get Frobisher on that. But he didn’t. So she’s shamed in court. Never assume.

I don’t think Ellen’s going to be by her dad’s deposition. Patty’s too pressured on the Frobisher case.

Patty is right about something: Gregory’s dead. And Frobisher has a big mouth. Whatever ended up happening to Gregory Frobisher will leak out, guaranteed.

Patty’s line about Ellen’s dad’s case is so something she lives by: “blame the other side AT ALL COSTS.”

I can’t believe Patty is shaming Larry in front of his family. Wow can Patty threaten.

Why is Ellen’s bail set so high? She’s not a flight risk, has no prior criminal record, or anything. She should be able to go home and appear at trial from there.

I think Ellen’s dad’s more like her than he’ll readily let on.

How come Larry really trusts Frobisher? That’s so ironic-”Guys like you are what really make this country great.” Said about the mole-Larry.

I guess the writers are trying to expose the horrors of what are legal world has sunk into-how everyone sues about everything till they bring their opponents down.

Hello Ellen becoming Patty.

Why are Tom and Ellen meeting with the guy, Moore, who sent the hit man to kill Gregory?

Frobisher’s an obvious bad liar. How come Larry’s by Patty’s house-she’s such a good manipulator, wow.

Ellen cannot survive Rikers Island.

And David let in his murderer. That’s why there are no signs of forced entry. Too much gore with David, by the way. I wonder how they make David look so dead with his eyes wide open.

I was sort of right about the standstill of this episode. We didn’t get anywhere important with either case. Only that Ellen’s at Rikers Island and that Larry is now on Patty Hewes’ side. So, since I predicted what the episode would be like, even though I still can’t really predict what’s going to happen, I’d give it a 3.8. It was entertaining, and kept my attention, to say the least.

I am about to watch episode seven, and for some reason, even though it’s been awhile since my last post, I can’t seem to get the show’s theme song out of my head. The words are “when I am through with you, there won’t be anything left.” It’s by a band called VLA and you can’t purchase or download the song from anywhere for some reason. The lyrics are just the ones above, but they seem to pretty much sum up Patty Hewes’ attitude towards EVERYBODY. Or maybe, since the pictures are of NYC, it’s referencing that it’s hard to survive in NYC. But I’m leaning more towards my first assumption. So, good going, director. You sure know how to keep the mystique in every aspect.

I feel like Patty treats her staff like a tribe of animals and she’s the queen. I think the title’s a good choice.

Yay. We’re going to finally get somewhere with Ellen’s case! Rose Byrne is a really good actress, just by the way.

Now it all points to Patty, I think. She had told Ellen she was going away for the weekend, and that’s when Ellen almost gets murdered and David gets murdered. Patty knew David would be alone, since Ellen was staying in her apartment because of her and David’s fight. Or maybe it’s a conspiracy between Leila and Patty. But Probably not.

The trial’s being televised? Men wearing makeup never ceases to amuse me.

Gregory’s now super-paranoid. He’s going to ignore the subpoena. He’s too jittery to appear without slipping. Didn’t Gregory tell Katie about the stocks?

I had almost forgotten about Patty’s son, Michael. That boot camp’s torture. It should be illegal. Where are the child labor laws? The kids are acting like robots. It’s a good thing Patty can see through her son’s B.S.

I can’t believe they’re arresting Ellen over David’s murder, although I did call it. That’s terrible.

Patty’s got obsessive compulsive disorder cleaning Ellen’s flower. She’s making her employees spy on each other.

Patty hates submitting to males. The writers are also trying to make the lawyers look like everyday people with Patty not knowing how to use her DVR. It’s kind of cliche, though.

Mr. Fisk looks like he’s going to die.

Why is Tom her lawyer and not her old mentor?

“Conscience is a liability”-Like Tom’s line. It’s such a cliche lawyer line but it works here.

Is Mr. Fisk going to kill Gregory? He said “cut your throat” as a foreshadowing maybe…Gregory can start over in Australia, replace Mr. Fisk. Or not. Mr. Fisk is walking around like a dead man…I think Gregory is going to stay and testify. He’s too angry and depressed not to.

Lawyering IS a mind game, David.

Gregory dies while buying candy. Or not. Patty is smart. Kidnap Gregory to make sure he is alive to be a witness. She knows Frobisher too well. Patty’s playing on his conscience-it’s a liability, remember?

I wonder if Tom sees himself in Ellen…

Patty knows how to outsmart her son. He’s not going to sign those emancipation papers. He’s still developing into her. One day, he’ll know how to outsmart Patty. Until he fully grows up though, he will make the mistake of a few empty threats along the way.

I don’t trust Gregory’s body guard. No way. Gregory’s not going to appear? i would’ve never expected that. Good twist. I mean I honestly feel it’s delaying the inevitable, but good twist. Gregory’s stupid though. Now he’s exposed.

Do lawyers normally trust their competition? Or is Tom just playing Katie?

Did Fisk win? Is that why Patty flipped and left? What happened?

Tom’s playing Ellen. I hate that Ellen is a naive and stupid newbie.

I knew her son wouldn’t leave her. He still needs his mom, as much as he’d like to deny it.

Oh my god. Seriously, this whole show is a conspiracy. I think a good-frustrated is how the writer’s want the viewers to feel.

My initial reaction to this episode was “it’s like “Lost,” since if you don’t watch it from the start, you won’t understand what’s going on. Also, that I’m lucky it’s only thirteen episodes since I honestly don’t know how much longer the writers can really drag it on by adding more conspiracies and secrets. I swear, it’s like the government! Nothing is what it seems. And it’s driving me crazy. I’d rate this one a 5, because it revealed a lot, by still being witty and adding more things for the viewers to obsess about.

So, here comes episode six. After watching the first five, I wish I could make some predictions. But I really can’t. I don’t know who killed David, who tried to kill Ellen, and as much as I’d like to assume it’s Patty I have nothing to really back up my assumptions on. So I’m stuck with watching to find out. Which is exactly what the writers want. So here goes…

Oh my God Ellen’s holding the murder weapon and staring at David! I mean even if she does look sick at seeing him dead, did she accidentally kill him while trying to ward off her attacker?

Didn’t we see these images last episode? There were major secrets in the Frobisher case? I mean it was pretty basic-at least I thought it was. Some newly rich man-Frobisher-got caught up with his wealth and made a bunch of mistakes that hurt a lot of his employees. The end. Or I guess not, since Ellen was almost murdered for knowing too much.

Does Ellen really think she can now pursue Gregory and get stuff out of him? What leverage does she have? She can really subpoena him? Is Gregory that scared of getting beaten up again that he won’t give them a name? You know, maybe he made his money from the Frobisher stock-he may have told Katie the truth about being a waiter and now he’s a consultant…

The writers are comparing Enron to the mafia. That’s kind of off to me a little…I mean they did bad but not mafia bad.

Haha Frobisher got spat on. I like that. Yes, Media makes people biased, but in this case it’s with good reason. He’s not a dual personality-he’s bad or he’s good. In this case he did bad, to cause good on his family. But he caused bad to so many-it doesn’t justify it.

Ellen’s right-Patty is her boss. You have to sometimes do those things to get somewhere in the business.

I think the girl that keeps flirting with David is either lying, or even if she’s not she will try something with him. Her name’s Leila, at least I think it is. Maybe she was a crazy stalker who was so in love with David she’d hire someone to kill Ellen, and when David wouldn’t take her she killed him? It’s out on a limb, but it’s a thought.

Wow is Frobisher’s psychotic paranoia rubbing off on his Australian lawyer. He looks terrible.

David looks so uncomfortable at this corporate dinner. Patty knows she’s treading on thin waters by mentioning Katie to David. David hates Patty. Patty is such a liar saying she likes to meet her associates’ spouses/partners. Maybe Patty wanted to cause this friction between Ellen and David-she is pretty evil like that. She seemed dead set on splitting them up from the start.

Whoa-Leila was dating David? I mean I assumed she was going to do something, but I thought he was too good a guy to respond…that’s terrible.

Ironic that Ellen’s looking at a postcard of the statue of liberty. Is that the theme also-that the statue of liberty looks after nobody. She’s just a symbol, there, for the world. But the symbol means nothing. “You have to look after yourself,” as Ellen said. Is the statue of liberty’s message liberty and justice for all? Is it making fun of it?

I’ve realized I have a bias against Mr. Enron/Frobisher. So everything he does or says to make himself look like the good guy, I just see it as bad. It bothers me. Normal doesn’t exist anymore for Frobisher and his family. He messed that up for them. He has no more integrity, no more character. He ruined people’s lives! He should pay for what he did. I’m just sorry his family has to be dragged into it as well.

Oh and now Frobisher’s just adding more to his case-I’m happy he lost his cool. It’s pretty sadistic, but I’m happy. It shows he’s pretty hopeless at this point. He’s desperate to get a better reputation, and he can’t.

I said Patty doesn’t want Ellen and David to work out. And I said Leila’s grandfather was fine, and she’s a stalker.

Mr. Fisk-Frobisher’s Australian lawyer has a secret. Can they stop with the secrets already! Enough, seriously.

Would they really shoot Gregory? I knew the girl was in on it. But Patty saved his life? So she does watch out for her witnesses.

Leila’s going to be in the apartment. Ironic David picked up the murder weapon and went to the bathroom. I think I may have actually been right about Leila being a psychotic stalker. And she’s such an unreliable witness it’s terrible. I’d bet David wasn’t even cheating on Ellen.

Wow was that an intense episode. I LOVED it though. It finally gave some insight away from the Frobisher case and more on David’s murder. I’d bet on it being Leila’s fault. Honestly, she’s really crazy. Maybe the death of her parents as a child pushed her over the edge. Or maybe that’s a lie too. You can’t trust anything she says. I hate that, but love it at the same time. I rate this episode 4.5 because we actually got somewhere with BOTH cases and it had a few witty lines. I liked it a lot.

When I saw the title of this episode I decided to google what an Earl Anthony is. Apparently it is a man who won many bowling championships until he died in 2001. His nicknames were “square earl” and “the machine.” Why they refer to him in this episode I guess only time will tell…

It is now 7:57 PM and the episode just started. Again, that old guy who seems to play her mentor. But I strongly doubt we will get anywhere with Ellen’s case.
And they make New Yorkers to be obsessed with exercise, by the way.

Patty is NOT a yoga person. She needs action. Yoga is supposed to calm. She doesn’t work well without pressure, it seems.

Whoa David does not seem so into this marriage anymore.
Why is Frobisher’s lawyer not wanting him to pull the settlement? I thought he didn’t want that…I thought he wanted to beat Patty.

Why does Frobisher want to get clear? He’s guilty! He should pay to all those lives he destroyed. He doesn’t deserve redemption. His needs to feel guilty and suffer. I mean, I feel bad for his kids. They’ll make their own names though. He needs to pay for what he did. And he will because he feels too proud to die without a clear name, even though clearly he’ll lose the case with a people’s jury to judge him.

Man, I did not know lawyers could start at $950,000. That’s a lot of zeros. But he’ll be back to Patty, I’ll call that. She has that pull, that intrigue. It’s why Ellen took the job in the first place, I think.

Patty’s showing vulnerability by saying she wished she could keep Tom.
Or is it sarcasm?
I like Patty’s line there-”Walking out of your own last supper?”

Old guy wants his money-finally showing some insight into the real victims lives. Even if he’s corrupt. He’s still suffering.
Yeah right. They’ll never fire Patty Hewes. There goes the whole show.
Oh and that’s all Ellen needs right now. A mother and me dinner. How is she doing that?

That’s sweet. She’s close to her mother. I like that.
I can’t believe the group hired another attorney but I’m pretty sure it will be Tom.

Hah. I finally called something right!
Frobisher needs a reality check. He needs to either accept a settlement fee or accept being sent to jail by the jury.

I hope Tom doesn’t get cocky now…Yes Atticus Finch from “To Kill a Mockingbird” is a great lawyer. He should be him. It’ll finally put some good name on the whole law community.

Haha “the witch is dead.” Patty Hewes is a witch. Now Tom has a life. But he really shouldn’t get so drunk. He knows too much about people’s lives and the case. He could slip.

Gregory’s like a blond chick magnet.
I guess ten years with Patty really destroyed Tom’s confidence…He’s way too drunk for his own good. Is he seeing a figment of Patty? or is she somehow really there?

Does Patty build attorneys to set up her competition? Just a thought.

See, it’s stupid to get mixed up with the wrong side. Hello mafia.

Katie went home to her parents. Kind of sweet. It’s like a whole family reunion. David and Katie at their house; Ellen and her mom at Ellen and David’s apartment.

Ellen won’t leave Patty. Sorry Tom. Ellen’s too loyal. That’s why she couldn’t have killed her fiance.

Maybe in this episode they’ll finally throw us a bone on Ellen’s almost-murder and David’s murder.

Does Patty Hewes want an in on this case or does she really want to be Tom’s mentor?
Patty hates bullies. Because of her father. That’s nice.
Does Patty really care about the clients? Or is she scared of the competition Tom represents?

God am I happy I don’t need to make Tom’s decision.
Now his best friend is calling him on the fact that he needs Patty, just like Patty just did. Poor guy.

I don’t think she’ll put him as a name-partner.

She said he was a number two person…I knew it!
But it is just a stupid name plaque…I knew he wouldn’t leave her.

Patty’s such a good manipulator. She always gets what she wants.
So is Ellen waking up finally about family before job?
And the case is coming together…
Wow Ellen killed HER attacker. In Patty’s apartment.
I said the theme was “Trust no one.” That is so not a way to live.

It’s 8:46 PM and I just finished episode 5. I thought it was okay. I’d give it a 3. The writers should be concerned less on all this character drama and maybe more on a plot line. Like honestly the plot just went in a circle just now. We got no where with either case. I didn’t like that. you have to be able to retain viewers, not annoy them. And I personally just got annoyed. Which is not something I think the writers meant to happen. I wonder if “The Sopranos” was like this too. I definitely don’t like this viewing style. I hope they change it in future episodes so we can actually get somewhere.

The title of this episode seems quite interesting, if not also intriguing. Like is a ho-ho short for whore? Or is this a Christmas oriented episode so they’re referring to Santa Claus’s best known phrase. Anyways, it’s now 6:44 PM and I’m about to watch episode four. Again, I’m on the floor of my room on my laptop, but i can’t seem to totally remember what happened in episode three. What i do know is that last night, September 20th, 2009, Glenn Close won the award for best actress in a drama series at the Emmy’s. Also “Damages” was nominated for a bunch of other awards, including best drama. Even if I wouldn’t totally agree with the judges on the other nominations, I do believe Glenn Close is a phenomenal actress (or at least let’s hope she’s acting), so props to her. So, let’s go on and watch her in action in episode four…

This show seems to be known for the flashbacks. It’s a good way to do it I guess.

Is Patty beyond Ding Dongs since she’s an elite? They taste like a ho-ho? I wonder what that’s supposed to mean.

So that also puts Katie out of murder since she almost has a heart attack when she sees the body of her brother…

Aw, Patty Hewes is a good mom? She really misses her son? I never thought of her as that type of person.

Katie still sleeps with Gregory…what are they both hiding? Oh right, he has a wife.

Wait…he just made a snide comment about Patty Hewes…what does he have against her?

Tom is also a dad…that’s sweet. They all have families.

Who’s this Martin that’s blackmailing Tom? Do all lawyers blackmail?

Ellen’s going to end up bailing on her fiance, David, and he’s going to take this girl, the granddaughter of his patient, instead.

Or not. I’m really bad at this.

Okay so Gregory doesn’t want to get involved because he’s scared of his wife, but why shouldn’t Katie get involved? If he cares so much about Katie, why is he still with his wife?

Also, it’s cute how the two professionals end up asleep at the movies-their “alone” time. It’s like they’re an old married couple.

So, now Katie’s debating whether or not to tell them…Because Gregory influenced her.
Katie’s good. I’m happy she decided to help out.

Man, that granddaughter of David’s patient is feisty.

Ellen doesn’t know any of this…I think she’s taking it pretty good, considering the facts just revealed to her.

I like that Katie’s a fighter.

Katie and Ellen had a fight? No way!

I said Patty Hewes was a bad influence. She cuts her away from her friends, family, everyone that matters. So Ellen can reach the best of her potential. Hate Patty Hewes. People need happiness too.

Frobisher’s attorney-Mr. Fisk-the shady Australian from before, is trying to be a gentlemen. But Katies’ good at playing him. She’s a good wittness.

I think that’s a fake picture. I feel bad for Katie.

So Gregory’s shady. And he cared more about himself than Katie. Bastard.

So did Tom take Martin’s job?

Oh wow. Gregory’s not even married. He just wanted sex. That’s distgusting.

Oh and here’s the fight. It’s the start of all the tension.

Now Ellen has a new confidant-Patty Hewes. Hate that idea.

Patty is way too good a liar for her own good.

Is that “Damages” message- “Trust no one?”

David’s too good a guy to sleep with someone else, right? I mean well, we don’t know him all that well…

Katie remembered him…who is this guy? Did she overdose? Poor girl.

I just finished episode four. WOW. I really liked this one. I liked how it flowed, it moved on with the case and it didn’t ignore any of the characters. I actually got really into it, which I definitely cannot say for the other three. That’s why I’ll give this episode a 5. It makes me want to watch another one right now. So I may later. I liked how it ended too. But Patty Hewes really is portrayed as evil. And it’s not just her whole stereotypical character. All the characters she’s known and remembered for are evil. Oh, and I also figured out why I can’t find any real information on the writers-they like their privacy. They’re not big on voicing their opinions. They’d rather hide behind the characters they create to say what they want to say to the world. Which is what great screenwriters seem to do best.
